‘X-Men’ Fans Leave 75000 Voicemails for Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters (Video)

Studio behind “X-Men: Apocalypse” releases responses to toll-free phone number in viral video advertising fictional school

“X-Men: Apocalypse” may be getting poor reviews from critics, but the viral marketing for the film has been top-notch, and Twentieth Century Fox just released another entertaining video built from the fruits of the marketing team’s labor.

A little over a week ago, Fox released a clever TV ad for Professor’s Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The 80s-style video featured Jubilee (Lana Condor) inviting young mutants to come to Professor X’s school to find an accepting environment that will help them control their new powers. The chipper ad ended with a toll-free number fans could call for more information, and those who did so were treated to an answering machine featuring the voice of none other than Stan Lee.

According to Fox, over 75,000 voicemail messages have been left for the fictional school. Now the studio has released a new video featuring the best of those messages.

The creative voicemails from fans that made the cut include someone who blew his house up with a sneeze, a mutant named “Sea Urchin” — who wishes his spikes extended above the belt instead of below, for obvious reasons — and a reverse telepath whose mind can be read by everyone.

But the best call came from a fan claiming to be Deadpool. Just like the movie that bore his name, Deadpool’s message thumbed a nose at the X-Men universe: “Uh, I don’t want to join the X-Men,” he said, “but can I get Jean Grey’s number?”

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is now playing in theaters.
