VIDEO: Interview with Emulex Senior VP of Marketing, Shaun Walsh

Emulex says that it provides ‘connectivity, monitoring and management solutions for high-performance networks, delivering provisioning, end-to-end application visibility, optimisation and acceleration for the next generation of software-defined, telco and Web-scale data centres.’

The company’s I/O connectivity portfolio has been designed into server and storage solutions from leading OEMs and ODMs worldwide, which is something that doesn’t happen by accident.

Emulex says this ‘enables organisations to manage bandwidth, latency, security and virtualisation’, and ‘monitor and improve application and network performance management.’

iTWire was invited to talk to Emulex and its Senior VP of Marketing, Shaun Walsh, about its operations, what the company does and its local customers in Australia, with the video embedded below.

In addition, Emulex announced David Williams as VP of product management and strategy for the Network Visibility Products (NVP) portfolio, where he will be responsible for driving the product roadmap, strategy development, and identifying new market opportunities, and we have details of that appointment following the embedded video.

We interviewed Walsh over a Skype connection from his office in California, by pointing our iPhone 6 Plus at the screen and pressing record as we chatted – with the interview embedded below.

We discussed Emulex IT predictions for 2015, trends such as the Internet of Things, mobile payments and BYOD accelerate the growth of 10, 25 and 40Gb Ethernet (40GbE) networks.

We talked about ‘Monitoring-as-a-Service’ and why it will emerge with OpenStack-enabled solutions this year.

We looked at the importance of granular monitoring for device attribution for the virtual network in the future.

Gartner predicted that the second generation of sentient software-defined infrastructure will emerge in 2015, and Emulex’s thoughts on this prediction.

We looked at what the what the IT industry might look like over the next five to ten years, and asked Shaun Walsh for his final message to iTWire readers, viewers and current and future Emulex customers.
