CTC Media, a leading Russian independent broadcaster, has launched an online video service, offering, in addition to its own titles, films from the Paramount library.
« We are offering our viewers a totally free library of legitimate movies, which is an absolutely unique offer in the market, » Yuliana Slashcheva, general director of CTC Media, said in a press release. « There are no other online video services like that in Russia. »
According to Slashcheva, the launch of the online video service comes as part of the broadcaster’s strategy to turn into a provider of content available in all environments and on all platforms.
The ad-sponsored model is used to monetize the video service, which operates on the broadcaster’s websites ctc.ru, domashniy.ru, peretz.ru and videomore.ru.
« We made the content available to users for free because this consumption model is currently the most common one for mass consumers in Russia, » said Alexey Pivovarov, head of the transmedia products department at CTC Media. « However, in the near future, we plan to offer our viewers premium consumption models, as well. »
Among the titles already available are Transformers, Mission: Impossible and Cowboys Aliens.
By the end of 2016, a total of 120 movies from the Paramount library are to be available for viewers of the CTC Media video service, the broadcaster said.
