New Utah convention will be ‘big, fun party’ for online video makers and their …

« Why is there not a big YouTuber show in Utah? » asked John Roberts, co-creator of the Orem-based YouTube channel Bored Shorts TV, which is organizing the event. « It seemed like a no-brainer. »

At a news conference Friday at The Gateway, Roberts’ brother and collaborator, Brett, added: « We’re doing this as a big, fun party. [It’s] a chance for [makers of] popular YouTube channels to meet their fans. »

CVX Live (the acronym stands for « Creator/Viewer Experience ») will have live stage acts every half-hour, meet-and-greet areas for fans and video makers, vendors booths and video premieres.

The Roberts brothers also announced a contest to promote « the next big YouTuber. » Channels with fewer than 10,000 subscribers would be eligible to compete, and the top five would see their videos played on the event’s big screen. The top YouTube channel would win a video starter kit, as well as chances to collaborate with established video makers.

The YouTube creators announced Friday for CVX Live represent the range of talent and genres available on the Internet, many of them based in Utah:

• Comedy: GloZell, Bored Shorts TV, Stuart Edge and Studio C.

• Pop-culture parodies: Dark Pixel, KFaceTV, Scott DW, Freakin Rad and Teddie Films.

• Fashion and lifestyle: Brooklyn Bailey, Aspyn Ovard and Nikki Phillippi.

• Hair tutorials: Cute Girls Hairstyles and Hair 101 with April.

• Music videos: Working With Lemons, Mimi Knowles, Jessica Frech.

• Singers: The Gardiner Sisters, Maddie Wilson, Ashley Hess, Aaliyah Rose.
