Manager makes upskirt video in store, caught

A British manager allegedly put his mobile phone in recording mode under the legs of a woman in a supermarket to video record her private areas, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 5, HB, 29, British marketing official, went shopping in a supermarket in JBR.

“While I was in the supermarket, a colleague of mine was also there. She was walking behind me. Suddenly, she called me and asked me to stop a man who was trying to run away. The woman, who was wearing a short skirt, told me that the man tried to video record her private area. I prevented him from leaving the place and took his mobile phone. After that, he asked me to give him the mobile. I gave it back to him on condition that he would open the recording folder. He opened the videos and I saw the shelves and the entrance to the supermarket where we were standing. Suddenly, he deleted the videos to remove any evidence against him,” he testified.

“Reviewing CCTV camera footage of the supermarket, we saw the accused dropping a cigarette packet near the victim’s legs. When he bent to pick up the packet, he was seen holding his mobile phone in the other hand and inserting it between the victim’s legs. The woman noticed the man. She stepped away and he tried to run away,” he said.

The victim AH told the police that when she felt the man bending behind her, she turned back and noticed that the camera of his mobile phone, which he was holding in his left hand, was in recording mode.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested the manager who admitted to the accusation and acted it out in front of policemen, testified Sergeant Ahmad Abdul Rashid.

The manager denied the accusation before the prosecution and in the court.

The Prosecution presented to the court a copy of the supermarket’s camera footage.

The court will reconvene on April 27.
