Local business owners invited to breakfast to learn about boosting marketing

The Woodbridge Economic Development Commission is inviting all Woodbridge businesses to the Commission’s Spring Outreach Breakfast on Thursday, March 26, at 7:30 a.m. at the JCC (360 Amity Road).

This year’s Spring Outreach Breakfast will focus on ways in which to use digital marketing and social media to reach clients and increase sales. Two Woodbridge-based businesses who are industry veterans will talk about digital marketing and answer questions: Cathie Reese of video production company Geomatrix will discuss the how to effectively use videos as a marketing tool and Bill DeRosa of social media marketing firm Talking Finger will discuss social media use.

The Spring Outreach Breakfast builds upon the Woodbridge Economic Development Commission website, woodbridgect.org/Business, which was launched in January 2014.

“I encourage local business people to take advantage of this networking opportunity and to learn tips of the trade from local experts on social media,” said First Selectman Ellen Scalettar.

DeRosa’s social media marketing business, Talking Finger, moved to Woodbridge in December from his home office in Oxford. His business was growing rapidly and he needed an office with more space to accommodate the growth.

Scalettar visited DeRosa’s new office in January to welcome him to town and learn about his business. This visit was one of many designed to create a stronger bond between Town Hall and the Town’s business community and to strengthen economic development in Woodbridge.

Additionally, the Town’s Economic Development Commission (EDC) has been inviting new and expanding businesses to its monthly meetings in order to learn about those businesses and why they have chosen to locate in Woodbridge.

DeRosa visited the EDC’s monthly meeting in January along with his neighbor business, Geomatrix. Together, the two companies offered, pro bono, to help the Town and the EDC promote and connect local businesses and Town Hall. Scalettar called the offer “a wonderful surprise.”

Geomatrix created a short video to promote the Town’s business district using the EDC slogan, “Shop Woodbridge, Dine Woodbridge, Try Woodbridge.” The video is available on the Town’s business website, www.woodbridgect.org/Business.

Talking Finger will help the Town use social media marketing to promote the video, which in turn, will promote Woodbridge businesses.

Also at the March 26 breakfast, Scalettar plans to make an announcement about continued outreach and support for the Woodbridge business community.

“The March 26th Spring Outreach Breakfast will be a wonderful opportunity for Woodbridge businesses to network and learn from each other,” said EDC Chair Jody Ellant. “I encourage all loal businesses to attend the Spring Outreach Breakfast and to increase their digital presence by adding or updating their business listing on the “Shop, Dine, Try Woodbridge” website at woodbridgect.org/EDCform.”

To attend the breakfast, RSVP to Lynn Anglace at 203-389-3400 or LAnglace@woodbridgect.org.
