A Florida woman was found decapitated on New Year’s Eve – killed with an ax by her son.
Christian Gomez, 23, told police that his mother, 48-year-old Maria Suarez-Cassagne, had been nagging him. « He was upset because his mother for the last couple of days had been trying to get him to put these boxes in the attic, » Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told Bay News 9.
« And because he was mad at her, over her request to put these boxes in the attic, he planned her murder for two days, » Gualtieri said.
Gomez disposed of his mother’s head in a trash can, but when her body wouldn’t fit in the receptacle, he dragged the rest of her body outside the house.
Suarez-Cassagne was discovered in her Oldsmar, Fla. home by another son, Mario, on Wednesday who called the police.
Police arrived at 7:30 p.m. Gomez had just left the house on a bicycle. He was arrested a few blocks away, according to Bay News 9.
Gomez has been arrested about 30 times in Pinellas County and has a history of mental illness, according to Bay News 9.
« He was talking as we’re talking now, and in a very calm cool way he explained what he did and why he did it and what happened, » Gualtieri told Bay News 9. « By talking to him, you wouldn’t think that he had any mental illness at all. That’s very scary. »
Gomez is being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a first degree murder charge.
